San Miguel Academy of Newburgh is pleased to announce that Janelli Garcia ‘22 and Fernando Garcia ‘22 have been accepted to Northfield Mount Hermon School in Gill, Massachusetts, a highly selective secondary school with 650 students from over 40 countries. Both students have been awarded the prestigious Arshay Cooper Scholarship for rowing and academic excellence. Through the A Most Beautiful Thing Inclusion Fund, Arshay Cooper is working to make rowing more accessible to underserved communities and low-income families.
The San Miguel Rowing Program is recognized as one of the Iargest competitive minority middle school rowing programs in the country. The rowing program has proven to be significantly beneficial to obtaining continuing educational opportunities for these students. Rowing creates access to educational paths that support the mission of San Miguel Program: to break the cycle of poverty through education and opportunity.
