Dominican University of New York announces new scholarship for San Miguel Academy of Newburgh graduates

NEWBURGH – November 14, 2023 –  It was a fantastic night at the Motorcyclepedia Museum for the kick-off of Beacon of Hope, a new scholarship initiative to support San Miguel Academy graduates at Dominican University. Joe Valenti, Dominican University Vice President For Institutional Advancement, is spearheading this life-changing opportunity for San Miguel Academy graduates.  The event was hosted by Ted Doering, founder of the Motorcyclepedia Museum, and attended by 75+ guests, including Sr. Mary Eileen O’Brien, O.P., Ph.D., President of Dominican University and Father Mark Connell, Executive Director and one of the founders of San Miguel Academy.

Brandon Pineda, San Miguel Academy Class of 2018, St. Benedict’s Prep Class of 2022, and Dominican University Class of 2026, spoke about his experiences as a student-athlete at Dominican, with his proud mother and sister looking on.  Brandon’s sister will graduate from San Miguel Academy in June and looks forward to continuing her education at boarding school, like her brother.

Brandon and his family posed for a photo with Dominican professor and rowing coach, Ivan Rudolph-Shabinsky, Director of the Division of Business, Innovation, and Leadership. Ivan is a long-time friend and mentor of SMA’s rowing program.

San Miguel Academy is proud to partner with Dominican University in their shared mission to create access to education for low-opportunity students.
