James 'Jim' Bopp was Executive Director of Rockland Psychiatric Center for fifteen years, and of Middletown Psychiatric Center for seventeen years.  One primary focus of his work was in innovations in care delivery; Middletown developed in 1993 the first inpatient treatment mall, which became a national model for state hospital re-engineering.  Later, the hospital developed the concept of repurposing the hospital grounds as a multi-service “community campus”, an improvement which was honored as a finalist in the American Hospital Association’s NOVA Award. Prior to his work in hospital administration, Bopp was an Associate Commissioner in the mental health departments of both the City and State in New York.  Before coming to New York State, he directed the Dulac Community Center in rural Louisiana. Since leaving State service, Bopp has served as a consultant, pro bono advisor, and board member to non-profit efforts in marginalized communities in Newburgh and Middletown, New York, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and in Mbita, Kenya. He is the lead author of publications on mental health policy and was honored by National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, by the Mental Health Associations in Rockland County and Orange County, and by the United Way of Orange County.  A graduate of Dartmouth College (B.A.) and Antioch College (M.A.), Bopp was an Instructor (part-time) in the NYU School of Medicine, and an Adjunct Instructor at The New School for Social Research.
