Since 2006, San Miguel Program has been an “oasis” to the most vulnerable demographic in Newburgh, boys from low-income families targeted most at risk of dropping out of school. The need to provide a “whole” education requires services beyond the classroom. SMP is comprised of five platforms: San Miguel Academy of Newburgh (SMA), a 5th–8th grade all-boys middle school, where students develop a sense of responsibility, respect and readiness for accessing an educational path appropriate to their talents; Soaring Eagles Enrichment (SEE), where our students are engaged in positive learning environments that allows them to further explore their interests and develop their talents; Summer Scholars Program (SSP), an extended six-week academic program from July to August to prevent the summer slide and keep students safe from some of the most violent streets in the nation during summer break; Graduate Success Program (GSP), our High School and College guidance and placement support, test preparation, tutoring, mentoring and counseling services for San Miguel Academy graduates; Child and Family Services (CFS), which connects each student to our social worker and collaborative affiliations with Catholic Charities to offer preventative programming and positive reinforcement.
